LinkedIn Guide
This short guide will walk you through a few quick steps to updating your profile and maintaining a strong presence on LinkedIn. Specifically, what we want to focus on is:
- Making sure your current position is up to date and linked to the Novartis Oncology company page. (page 2)
- Adding your accomplishments, such as Awards, Publications and Patents. (page 4)
- Optimizing your content to grow your network and the Novartis Oncology brand on social

Getting started
Step one, Sign in to LinkedIn with your Username and Password.
After signing in, you are then taken to your Homepage. Click on your Profile Icon and select View Profile.
Next, find the Pencil Icon button on the right of your profile information.
When the profile form opens, update your Title if necessary. Also, make sure to use the Add Current Position to fill out the appropriate information. Typing “Novartis Oncology” in the Company section will automatically bring up the option to choose “Novartis Oncology” as your Company.
*Make sure you Save your Employment Status.
Adding Accomplishments (Publications) to Your LinkedIn Profile
Adding your accomplishments can be very beneficial to your profile. You can easily add Publications, Patents, Awards and More to your LinkedIn Profile, but we’re going to focus on Publications and you can do the same for the other categories. Adding publications is great way to showcase your accomplishments and increase the impact of your research.
First, at your main profile page, you will select the drop-down menu titled, “Add profile section”.
You will see that you have several items you can add to your profile. We’ll be focusing on the “Accomplishments” section.
There are a number of Accomplishments you can add, but let’s focus on “Publications” and “Patents”. The form is simple, and you can fill it out with your appropriate information. Make sure to consider what publications are open access and which are not. If they are not open access you can still share the link to the abstracts.

- Link ResearchGate with LinkedIn to keep your LinkedIn automatically updated with your ResearchGate. – Go to settings in your ResearchGate account > Connect with Services > Connect with LinkedIn.
Tips for Optimizing Your Page and Content:
Once your profile is set up, it’s important use the platform to engage with others and post interesting and relevant content for your network.
- Like, comment, and share relevant posts and updates from peers and companies you follow
- Follow the Novartis Oncology company page and share relevant updates with your network with your own message of why that update is important and relevant
- Use the platform as a networking tool to grow your network – invite current and previous colleagues to connect and engage with them on the platform through likes, comments, and direct messages
- Join industry and educational groups, as well as those that reflect causes and communities that are important to you
